Another thing that might help with the machine is to rethread top and bobbin. I don’t recall what machine you have but on my featherweight the bobbin run has a notch that has to be directly up and nested or all heck breaks loose.

What is the machine doing?

When I got my new machine a few years ago, I found it could not use some of the very cheap brands of thread.

I finished this 80s Winnie the Pooh themed blanket last night. I enjoy sewing the squares together. Used about 3 1/2 skeins of yarn.

It is a Singer 401a. I figured out one of the problems (I had the wrong size bobbin in :woman_facepalming:t2:) and rethreaded the top, making sure I had everything where it was supposed to be. Now, the top thread is doing great, with nice, even stitches, but the bottom is skipping several stitches in a row, so it is just a bunch of long threads between a few loose stitches. I put the sewing machine in time-out for today because it was driving me nuts, but I’m going to try again tomorrow. As I am messing with it, I am learning more. I’ve now got the hang of how to thread it properly and have finally learned how to get the bobbin thread to come up properly! I’ve found a guy on YouTube who is pretty expert with this machine so I’m going to watch a few more of his videos and see if he can show me something I’ve missed.

I have also had to pull a spool from use on the machine. I labelled it with sharpie so that I never forget! It was the worst.

My machine of that age sometimes started acting up like that. Blowing out the bobbin area always seemed to stop the problem.
