Need a baby blanket pattern

I love the attached free pattern with its dimensional geometric design (Soft-as-a-Cloud Baby Afghan by Laura Polley). It is written for worsted weight, but I would think you could easily substitute the DK. Maybe would be better with a solid color rather than variegated though?..elaine

They really are a nice touch and it goes so fast! I am surprised at how fast it’s going! I have to make 2 of them since my nephew and his wife are having twins, so I’m delighted to have a fast pattern. And it’s mostly solid, so very few holes for fingers to tangle in.

@FranH That is a beautiful stitch pattern for a blanket. I considered making a Hemlock Ring, but I think I want something faster.

@nybennie That’s nice too! I have so many to choose from. I ought to just pick one and start. LOL! I am feeling a bit off kilter not having my regular organization system.

I found a website with baby sets “Marianna’s Lazy Daisy Days”. She has a bunch of free patterns there, one of which is “Wave of Light”. There is a blanket, cardigan, bonnet, beanie & hat in preemie & 0-3 months size. https://mariannaslazydaisydays.blogspot.com/2019/01/.
She has numerous patterns on her site. I have made her “Starting Out Baby Dress” & “SKYE - Child Hat & Mittens Set” and was very pleased.

There’s a really neat box texture illusion blanket but I can’t think of the name right now. The wave style blankets are always cute. Keep in mind that odd shapes sometimes work really well for covering a car seat/stroller so a typical crib size might not be as useful as a different shape that wraps around better. For example, if I was knitting someone a blanket today I would do a vertices unite blanket because it’s the perfect swaddle shape to wrap around, or a small car seat sized blanket that’s easy to stuff around the baby. Just a thought, I know I received a lovely crochet blanket that hasn’t seen much use because of the bulkiness, it always falls down off the stroller and doesn’t stay very well because of the size.

@LiddleDesigns Thank you. Those are my thoughts exactly. I won’t do a full crib size blanket because I’m not really a blanket knitter and by the time I finish the baby might just well be too big. Ha! I’m thinking no matter what pattern I use that I will size it for a stroller or car seat size.

I’m making the Estonian Princess Baby Blanket: https://fabuknits.com/KNITTING_PATTERNS/estonian.baby.blanket.html or https://www.etsy.com/listing/65312812/estonian-princess-baby-blanket-knitting

What a pretty pattern!

Yes, I agree. I had a rather horrendous experience with a baby blanket a few months ago. The double-knit yarn turned out to be too stiff (I should say this was a woven blanket); the four-ply went well, I’m pleased to say.

This is beautiful!
