@FreedomLover The best response I have heard is, “I do this so I don’t kill people.” I have never actually used it myself, but it is so tempting!
Mom and I had a unique one - a five or six year old approached us the other day indicating his sister’s friend tried to teach him, would he be able to borrow our knitting to try again? It was so sweet I wished I had a dish cloth in progress to hand over to him.
