COVID Humor

Yep, I still think this one is funny. ( I was a homeschool mom)

A serious thought…

I have concerns about items such as this, https://apadiv15.org/education-practice-briefs/, which obfuscate issues by conflating traditional homeschool (in which a parent exercises decision making and control of planning and scheduling, evaluating resources and curriculum, choosing lessons, and assessing their child’s learning) and the current government-imposed student utilization of online curriculum in the home.

In actual homeschooling, parents are in charge. The family is empowered.

In the current circumstance, the government schools have inserted themselves into the family, between parents and children, and/or have placed themselves above the parents, in judging how well the parents are overseeing the students’ learning of government school curriculum. The family is disempowered.

Yet, in calling the second scenario “homeschooling” they can backfill, substitute, replace, switch-a-roo, what we have all long known as “homeschool” with the new socialist, globalist, communist, totalitarian, model: expansion of government power and control.

qfknit, you are so right! And your prescient insight is so well phrased. Have you thought about writing a piece for American Thinker?

Thank you, @Amore , for the nice compliment.

I’ve enjoyed reading articles at AmericanThinker… but, alas, I will leave the writing for AmericanThinker to others and I will try to maintain a low profile by just posting here. That said, anyone inspired by something I post can feel free to adopt and adapt the ideas and write an article to submit.

I’d be amused to be a muse!

@qfknit

I completely agree. We home schooled on a shoe string and found our own curriculum. We didn’t even have the luxury of outsourcing the teaching to others…such as using DVD’s from larger private schools. (Although I had many many moments where I thought about getting a outside the home job just so we could afford the thousands of dollars this would cost us per year) I am not attacking those who did. I am glad they were able to homeschool in a way that met the needs of their family.

In the end…everyone will be fine. Kids will figure out that they must be responsible to turn on the computer and participate with the teacher. Parents will figure out that this is a huge life lesson and it is ok if their kids fail a bit here and there.

One of my children decided to attend college and get a degree in the Science field. She is doing fantastic with all A’s and B’s. She mentioned that what is going on right now is not Homeschooling. It is doing your school work at home.

For those of you struggling to adapt to this. Hang in there. You were just handed a complete life style change overnight. It takes time for everyone to adapt. Meanwhile…relax and let the kiddo make mud pies…while you teach them about landslides, floods, and irrigation.

stay well everyone.

@hereami - Love this, " let the kiddo make mud pies…while you teach them about landslides, floods, and irrigation."
Well said!

Best kind of learning is real-world learning with a purpose. qfknit sounds like an intuitive and genius teacher.

And because we are posting in a HUMOR thread, I will chuckle at the rest. (If I knit and chuckle, will I scare the neighbors?)

Our grandtwins are kindergartners and their Auntie Em sent them these t-shirts.

Got the TP, but it took me a few to figure out the face mask. LOL!

I’m sorry, I should have mentioned what it was.

Oh this is so funny! Thank you, this covid stuff has got me down a bit. I am old enough to be in the high risk group, and adapting to a new medication that has stolen most of the quality from life…so jokes like these really pick me up. thank you all.

You’re welcome, glad we can help. If we don’t laugh we might cry these days.

Hi Janet, glad you found us here.

I’m in the older group, too, and I have had it with this house arrest. Not that I ever went out partying or anything, but I have been pushed to the brink of sanity a few times. I’m out of my funk now and am organizing and trying to get my daily routine back.

Welcome aboard!

Anne

HelloKitten, love the “pushed to the brink of sanity” line! A few well-chosen hugs have just about put me there, as well!
Warning: Stashes grow exponentially under house arrest. Especially pattern stashes.
