Corvid-19: Why are we clinging to protocols based on false information?

I am strongly against the current bans against families visiting elderly relatives in nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities, retirement homes, and other senior residences. This isolation is a form of abuse. The absence of family advocates also allows unchecked neglect and abuse of the elderly by staffers.

The CNAs and other staff can also bring COVID-19 to the senior citizens; there is nothing to suggest that families would be more likely to infect their loved ones.

@qfknit I totally agree with your comment. It is a form of abuse as illustrated in the anecdote I related. Who has more of a vested interest in not harming that patient than the family? It’s not as if the staff has been isolated along with the patients. Aren’t they going home every night? Aren’t they interacting with their families who are interacting with whomever? This makes no sense to me.

I am an advocate of in home care where ever possible (and yes I understand that may not always be possible) and I would rather have that loved one with me and my family surrounded by those who love him than to think he will die alone among strangers. It’s heart breaking and I don’t think my friend will ever get over it.

May God bless and comfort your friend in this difficult experience!

I found these links. I find them interesting and incredibly sad.
The CDC has great data from past flu years. For example in 1968 there were about 100,000 flu deaths. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/1968-pandemic.html
This virus isn’t going away anytime soon, in my opinion. From what I understand virus’ continue to circulate thru the population until there is enough immunity built up the virus’s effect dies off. The only reason virus’ are a problem is that some of us…or most of us…have never dealt with it before and our bodies are overwhelmed. (I am not a doctor…just my opinions. My non conspiracy theory opinion…lol. )

This is a powerful graphic. We have surpassed our total death count for Vietnam. Not only that…but of WWI.
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/history/2020/04/coronavirus-death-toll-vietnam-war-cvd/

Here is another graphic with the daily death counts. ( April 27, 2020 saw 1157 souls taken by this virus. )

This link is the CDC’s info on past flu deaths. This year perhaps 34,000 souls were taken by the flu. (last year 61,000)

This is the CDC’s death data page. …which state they have occurred in.

:mad:What I find most maddening. People didn’t’ learn to wash their hands. And I don’t mean wash after touching absolutely everything.
I simply mean wash after blowing their nose or using the bathroom and before they touch anything that is going to be touched by another human.
I was hoping simple hygiene practices would improve. I was wrong.

Because I have too much I still want to see and do before it is my time to pass on…I am going to be as watchful and careful as I can.
Last time I had pneumonia I was completely out of the game of life for about 6 months. I don’t have time for that nonsense again.

Stay informed and please…stay well everyone. :fk:

And while we’re making adjustments, I would like to see trade spread out so we’re not so dependent on one country. We having trouble getting my husband’s blood pressure medication. I have to call it in at least a week early and they will only give him 30 days at a time. Prior to all this it was no problem to get a 90 day supply.

@Hellokitten - I worry about a shortage of a lot of medications If our country acts aggressively towards China. We are in a very vulnerable position.

Definitely could be a problem. I doubt the general public realized the majority of our medications came (comes)from China.

I am more concerned with a shortage of medications if our country continues to be overly dependent and trusting toward China, or any country for that matter. I believe it is well past time to return many manufacturing jobs to the United States of America. Not to do so simply deprives our citizens of jobs, weakens our economy, and provides those countries with leverage, which can be used against us.

https://americasfrontlinedoctorsummit.com/ is the website of the doctors who were pretty much wiped off most of the platforms like twitter and such a few days ago. …just in case anyone is interested in checking it out. Also, here is Sabastian Gorka on youtube talking to Dr. Dan Erickson who is one of those doctors–
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r9J4Ptoj98 , again, just in case anyone is interested is knowing what some doctors think about treating the virus.

It’s been heartbreaking to see political forces try to dissuade people from using a medication that’s shown success all over the world. It’s incomprehensible.

@FreedomLover I am sorry to say, but I think the word you are looking for is ‘political’ not incomprehensible. We are in serious trouble when mankind puts it’s greed for power above humanity and human lives. I would hate to see the quest for a medication that might be helpful become a black market item.

I thought that President Trump made an Executive Order allowing patients to use experimental medications when making life sustaining decisions? Wouldn’t this medication fall into that category? If one thinks that they can prevent acquiring a life threatening virus, shouldn’t one be allowed to use it? According to the news, we should do everything to avoid getting it as we might die. That’s life threatening enough by my standards.

And speaking of those doctors, here is a site that has collected many of those ‘banned’ videos. Not sure how they do it or are getting away with this but for as long as it is up some may want to take a look.

Thank you, @susanwayne, for the website. …and you might be right about taking a look while it is still up and running because you never know when…

What I find maddening and incomprehensible is that nowhere, nowhere am I hearing “Put the lid down before you flush,” although it’s known that this virus also spreads through the fecal/oral route, and toilets are very efficient at aerosolizing their contents when flushed. We hear all the rest of the mantra ad nauseum wherever, whenever we go, but I have yet to hear the simple admonition to lower the lid. (Maybe because most public restrooms don’t have lids? Oops.)

Oh, and a corvid [see beginning of thread] is a crow, magpie, or blue jay.

I agree…Please put the lid down.

Hopefully all states will get the testing kits they need, and we will see America safely open for business again soon. :clinking_glasses:

And now for a moment of silliness: the #QuarantinePillowChallenge on Instagram.
